Louise Sliman

My paintings are a reflection of myself and my feelings as I paint. The longer I paint, the less I find myself painting things as they are in the world and the more I paint how I feel about what I see.  In my paintings feelings are expressed through color and much of my work is painted in complements of blue and orange.  Blue is the sky and orange is fire and the sun.  These are what inspire me most.  I started working with soft pastels but once I tried using paint and a brush, I was hooked. Something about the feeling of scratching and rubbing the paint into the surface of the canvas is especially pleasing to me and much of my my work is blended, scumbled and layered creating depth of color.
